The Physician of the Future

There are two biblical concepts that may be familiar that I would like to phrase here and begin this entry on this Valentine’s Day.

“…love your neighbor as yourself.”
“…physician, heal thyself.”
The point of these two quotes is, to love your neighbor you must first love yourself. To heal others you also need to heal yourself. With these two things understood we can now move to the physician of the future. The physician of the future has already been born and has been sufficiently trained to address the needs of their patients, right now. There really are only three things needed to change or tweak to more adequately treat not just the patient, but the patients concerns. One is language; another is similarity and finally, symbolism. For language, it is a part of the educational process. The purpose of education is or should be the simplicity in presentation. This pretty much means that everyone and anyone can understand. Everyone should be on the same page; everyone should speak the same language.

This becomes increasingly difficult when you look at the names of drugs. Even the doctor may not know the origin of a substance since Latin is no longer required in medical school, but Latin is often infused with the drug itself. Latin came out of Greek as the ancient Romans took much from the Greeks. Some would say stole it from the Greeks, but that is another matter. Anyway, here are a couple of examples where Latin is associated with modern day words:

Carotene [Origin: 1860–65; LL carōt (a) carrot + ene] – any of three yellow or orange fat-soluble pigments having the formula C40H56, found in many plants, esp. carrots, and transformed to vitamin A in the liver; provitamin A.

Lycopene [Origin: 1925–30; earlier LL lycop(in) ] tomato genus – a red crystalline substance, C40H56, that is the main pigment of certain fruits, as the tomato and paprika, and is a precursor to carotene in plant biosynthesis.

So what have we just learned? Basically carotene means yellow or orange and lycopene means red. I understand this perfectly, so why don’t the doctors just tell us this? Well behind these words is the hidden fact that these are usually associated with pharmaceuticals and those that make drugs. Do you ever wonder where drugs come from? No, not what they end up as, but where do they come from? They all have their origins from nature.

A simple aspirin comes from a certain type of willow tree and that is interesting because, no one has or can ever have a patent on what comes from nature. Why not just let red be red, orange be orange and a willow tree be a willow tree? Well to do that would take the secrecy out of medicine and take away a lot of profit. God forbid that we knew and understood what the doctors were telling us, why we should listen to them, what we were taking and what the results or consequences would be from our taking the drugs.

Another needed change for the physician of the future centers around what was once called, “The Doctrine of Signatures.” During the classical Roman period this was called, “The Law of Similarities.” Scientists of today now refer to this as “Teleological Nutritional Targeting or TNT for short. If you can understand that our vehicles having a combustion engine and that they run on gasoline, then you can understand “The Doctrine of Signatures,” “The Law of Similarities,” and “Teleological Nutritional Targeting.”

Just as we wouldn’t think of running our vehicles on lemonade, our bodies require certain fuel that is similar to our composition, and we wouldn’t think of drinking gasoline and eating oil. TNT seeks to understand the similarities in nature to our nutritional needs, (the fuel that keeps us running, running smoothly and for as long as is possible).

Many probably take better care of their vehicles than they of their own bodies. Our bodies also, contain brains that house our minds, so we are a complete package. Take care of just a part or parts and the whole suffers. By finding, understanding and utilizing what is similar to our composition from nature, we will increase the quality and quantity of our lives.

What are some specific examples of TNT? Remember carotene (orange), as in, a carrot? A sliced carrot looks like the human eye. What is similar of a carrot to our eyes appears as a pupil, iris, iris and radiating lines just like the human eye…and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

Remember lycopene (red) as in, a tomato? A tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food.

There are many more examples to study and much more that exists in nature to discover. I truly believe that nature holds everything we will ever need to sustain life, maintain life, prolong life and to heal all manner of sickness and disease.

Many “medical” organizations use a symbol of a short rod entwined by two snakes and topped by a pair of wings, which is actually the caduceus or magic wand of the Greek god Hermes (Roman Mercury), messenger of the gods, inventor of (magical) incantations, conductor of the dead and protector of merchants and thieves. It is derived from the Greek karykeion = “herald’s staff”, itself based on the word “eruko” meaning restrain, control.
I think a much more accurate symbol for medicine and the physician of the future would be from nature. Color, shape and function based on the similarities to the human body would be more fitting.
Nature provides the language, the similarity and the symbolism needed for the physician of the future. This is the same physician that has already been born and has already been properly trained. Yes, the physician of the future already exists today. That physician is you and I. To love our neighbor we must first love ourselves. To truly heal others we must ourselves, first be healed.

  1. Great thoughts, my latest thoughts about doctors include that they need ears to listen to the paitient. If your told someone cant handle a certain substance, dont change the name and give it to them anyway, its not like they wont find out.
